This post is part of an ongoing challenge to share a little joy I have found each day of this year, and perhaps for the rest of my life. I hope you enjoy it!

Sometimes the passage of time can drift lazily alongside of us, not really catching our attention. At other times, it seems that time is speeding past, making us feel like we are missing out on so much opportunity.
Little things jolt us out of our reverie and smack us in the face with how much has gone by.
I was watching the first Harry Potter movie, and suddenly realized how young all the actors and actresses were. That this mammoth film series had come and gone through my childhood and now, here I am, an adult, looking at it with a completely new perspective, not really knowing what the hell has happened over the course of nearly two decades, wondering where all my time went.
As much as a part of me wishes to reclaim all that time, another part of me looks at it with a certain sense of contentment, with quiet joy. Knowing that I have lived awhile now, and could have done much worse, is a sort of balm to the soul.
We must never forget that as bad as things are, they could have gone much worse. Many people don’t find this comforting, but I very much do.
Maybe it will for you as well, or maybe not. We all have the right to our own perspectives.
